Welcome Message from the Chair
INYAS was founded by INSA in December 2014 with a vision to promote Science education and networking among Young Scientists. After successfully completing an incubation period of five years, INYAS entered a new phase, since 2020. The journey has been incredible so far with full of experience, new learnings and many achievements. We started our activities with 20 Young Scientists as founding batch members and grew to 116 young, dynamic and committed members contributing towards various objectives of INYAS. This year in the 9th General Body Meeting in Feb. 2024, 30 new members have been inducted in INYAS for a period of five years across various disciplines (Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences). The INYAS 2024 Membership’s success percentage stands proudly around 7.8%, reflecting the accomplishment of our perpetual efforts to incorporate outstanding talents into our fraternity. Additionally, INYAS holds a strong commitment of balanced gender representation, therefore, 11 female and 19 male members have been selected from across the country, ensuring a healthy balance in our ranks. This enormous expansion has contributed significantly to our collective expertise and diversity.
Currently, we are engaged in variety of Science outreach activities for school students, training program, workshops and webinars for Young Scientists, Scientific meetings of high standard and of interdisciplinary nature and networking not only among Indian Young Scientists but worldwide through various other National Young Academies and Global Young academy (GYA).
In 2023-24, INYAS members conducted more than 90 events with multiple initiatives in remote and rural areas to science awareness camps. INYAS commemorated National Science Day and hosted conferences, seminars and webinars to exponentially increase the connection of science to society. .
INYAS organizes several flagships events, like PRAYOJAN, RuSETUP & WiSDom in pursuit of our vision, deeply rooted in the spirit of scientific inquiry and collaboration. In addition to this INYAS also supported outreach events like remote area lecture series and science awareness camps to target the underprivileged section of society. Through its capacity building programs, training programs and scientific meetings, INYAS aims to extend its multidimensionality to young researchers and academicians. Additionally our commitments also extend globally through collaborations with other Young Academies worldwide. The academy organises various competitions like Saransh – Thesis Presentation Competition, National Competition for Research Excellence, Sci-Art Image Competition, and school level competitions to encourage students and scholars. Among the various initiatives in 2023-24, INYAS transitioned from local chapters to zones. Presently we have ten zones, covering all states and union territories of the country.
In 2023, INYAS along with various ministries and science academies and institutions hosted special events that targeted the S20 engagement group to proliferate science in its myriad forms and organized (in collaboration with ministry of youth affairs, GoI) a Panel Discussion on “Empowering Young Scientists in Governance” in Youth20/G20 event at Bhubaneswar, and a session on the theme: “Health, Wellbeing and Sports: Agenda for Youth” during Y20 Pre Summit at Leh, Ladakh.
Like every year, several INYAS members continued their excellence in research, teaching, science leadership for which they were recognized nationally and also globally.
INYAS is a unique and first of its kind Young Academy of India and is committed to engage itself in interdisciplinary and intergenerational scientific dialogues and is ready to participate actively in Science policy and decision making.
