SARANSH 2025

5th edition · Sponsored by Springer Nature

SARANSH 2025 poster

INYAS is pleased to announce the 5th edition of Saransh – Thesis Competition for PhD students. Saransh is an opportunity for the new generation of budding Indian scientists to communicate their research to the wider population beyond the scientific community.

Purpose

The need for scientific innovations arises from challenges faced by society at large. However, dissemination of such knowledge to the population is often laced with challenges like a dearth of appropriate platforms, a lack of proper connect with the audience and excessive use of scientific jargon. "Saransh" by the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) is an attempt to bridge the gap between budding scientists and the community at large. It aims to provide a platform to PhD scholars across the country to present their work to a wider audience who have little or no knowledge of their area of research.

Eligibility

  • Open to PhD students registered in any State/Central Institution or University (government or private) in India only.
  • The student must have completed at least 2 years of doctoral research and must not have defended their thesis yet.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • A letter of endorsement from the PhD Guide/Supervisor/Head (PDF, on official letterhead) is required.

Preliminary round

  • Submit your entry by uploading a video presentation to YouTube, showing both your slides and your own voice/video. Ensure the link is correct and publicly accessible.
  • A maximum of three slides; no animations or additional slides.
  • Presentations may be in English or Hindi.
  • Explain your research in simple terms; communicate the real-world implications; analogies are encouraged.
  • The video must be exactly 3 minutes or less.

Final round (live, online)

An INYAS jury reviews all first-round submissions; approximately ten of the best entries from each category advance to a live online final via video conference. The same rules apply (3 slides, no animation, English/Hindi, simple explanation, 3-minute limit), followed by a Q&A session with the judges that does not count toward the time limit.
