Membership Eligibility

INYAS invites applications from young, independent researchers working in any area of Science and Engineering who have a proven track record of excellence in their respective fields and a demonstrated passion for Science outreach, promotion, communication, and leadership.

Minimum Qualification

1. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in any discipline of pure and applied Sciences and Engineering, or an M.S./M.D. in Medical Sciences, and be less than 40 years of age as on 31st December 2026. Women applicants and persons with disabilities (PwD) may, with proper justification, be considered for a one-year age relaxation (less than 41 years of age as on 31st December 2026).
2. Be a citizen of India, and living and working in India at present.
3. Hold an academic position. Applicants working in Industry R&D Units, or those working in Science Policy/Communication Entities (e.g. DST, DBT, ANRF, CSIR HQ, etc.), are eligible to apply under the “Others” category.
4. Two letters of support are necessary for a valid application (see below).

Letters of Support

Two letters of support are necessary for a valid application. The letters can be provided by any of the following:

• Fellows of INSA, NASI and IASc (excluding members of the present INSA Council, i.e. President, Vice-Presidents, and Members of the Council)
• Fellows of INAE
• Fellows of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Medical Sciences (NAMS) and Veterinary Science (NAVS)
• Alumni of INYAS
• Director / Head of the Institute (present employer)
• Head / Chairperson of Department (present employer)

Expectations from Members

Each INYAS member is expected to attend the Annual General Meeting of INYAS each year and to actively contribute to one or more of the INYAS activities, as well as plan new activities for the promotion of Science and INYAS. Failing to attend two Annual General Meetings of INYAS consecutively may result in the termination of membership. For details, please refer to the code of conduct guidelines for INYAS members.

Further, an INYAS member is expected to publish at least one research article in any recognized Indian journal during the INYAS membership tenure. A minimum time commitment is expected from a member from time to time.

Please remember to submit the application after finalizing it — only submitted forms will be considered for evaluation.

Referees & Recommendations

Your referees will be contacted by email after you submit your application; all details on how to submit their recommendation will be provided in that email. Emails are sent to referees for every candidate who submits an application — please alert your referees to check their inbox.

If a referee does not receive any email, please request them to send their recommendation letter directly to inyasmemberships@gmail.com with a copy to inyasindia@gmail.com. Recommendation letters should be submitted by 15 September 2026.
