COVID Research and Mitigation

  1. On April 11, 2020, an article was published in bioRxiv (https://www.biorxiv.org/…/10.1101/2020.04.07.029132v1.full) on novel mutations identified on the spike protein of newly sequenced Indian isolates. The work was led by combined effort of Dr. Upasana Ray {Senior scientist, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (CSIR-IICB), Kolkata, Member of INYAS-INSA}, Dr. P.P. Tripathi and Dr. A.K. Srivastava (Scientists, CSIR-IICB) and Dr. Arup Kumar Banerjee (North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal). This was the first report of such mutations in Indian isolates along with another report published by another group on the same day in bioRxiv. Although mutations are emerging with new sequences been announced, there are patches od spike protein that remain unchanged and that should be the Achille’s Heel for future SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. says Dr. Ray.
  2. INYAS salutes its member, Dr. Paramdeep Singh for his active role at front line against the Covid-19 pandemic. As a Radiologist, Dr Paramdeep Singh is handling the imaging data of COVID 19 patients on a day-to-day basis. He uses imaging techniques such as Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, and X-rays to manage COVID 19 cases. Based on the imaging, Dr. Singh offers specialist expertise and guidance to other physicians and staff from a range of medical specialties in hospital settings to ensure quality treatment of COVID 19 patients.
